Fighting Childhood Hunger, One Meal at a Time: Legacy ER and Urgent Care's Partnership with Frisco Fastpacs

As a parent, there's nothing more heartbreaking than the thought of a child going hungry. Unfortunately, food insecurity is a daily reality for many families in the Frisco area. That's where organizations like Frisco Fastpacs step in, working tirelessly to ensure that every child in the Frisco Independent School District has access to the nutrition they need to thrive.

This year, Frisco Fastpacs is getting a major boost in its fight against childhood hunger, thanks to a $10,000 grant secured with the help of Legacy ER & Urgent Care and its parent company, Intuitive Health.

The grant was awarded by the ACP Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Altamont Capital Partners, a private equity firm and investor in Intuitive Health, Legacy ER & Urgent Care's parent company. The grant will allow Frisco Fastpacs to provide weekend meal packs to over 1,000 food-insecure students during the 2024-2025 school year.

For Dr. Jay Woody, founder and chief medical officer of Legacy ER & Urgent Care, nominating Frisco Fastpacs for the grant was an easy decision. "As a healthcare provider deeply invested in the Frisco area, we see firsthand the impact that proper nutrition has on a child's overall health and wellbeing," says Dr. Woody. "By supporting Frisco Fastpacs, we're not just fighting hunger; we're investing in the future of our community."

The partnership between Legacy ER & Urgent Care and Frisco Fastpacs is a powerful example of how healthcare organizations can play a role in addressing the social determinants of health. By looking beyond the walls of the clinics and identifying opportunities to support important community initiatives, healthcare providers can help create a stronger, more resilient society.

As Frisco Fastpacs prepares to put the grant funds to work, the organization's leaders are grateful for the support of partners like Legacy ER & Urgent Care. "Fighting childhood hunger is a community effort," says Heather Canterbury, executive director of Frisco Fastpacs. "We couldn't do this work without the generosity and commitment of organizations like ACP Foundation and Legacy ER. We're so thankful for their partnership."
