New Frisco Emergency Room to Cut Wait Times, Serve Patients with the Common and Severe
JULY 15, 2008 – FRISCO, TEXAS – According to a USA Today study, emergency rooms across America are so inundated with patients that it could take almost an hour for a heart attack victim to be seen. Lifesaving minutes could be the difference in care, and a new, freestanding ER in Frisco is on the cusp of changing this startling pattern.
Legacy ER’s state-of-the-art facility is scheduled for completion August 6 and will feature NASA-developed equipment and access to board-certified emergency physicians, offering everything from relief from the common cold to quick attention during a heart attack.
“This is a unique model compared to other non-hospital centers,” said Kirk D. Mahon, M.D., one of the three founders of the center. “We are a true emergency room, with a fully-functioning laboratory, radiology suite, procedural anesthesia, and cardiac care on-site.”
Recent trends in the Dallas suburbs have brought in after-hours clinics, allowing patients to be seen when their normal family physician’s office is closed. While Legacy ER will also provide typical urgent care services, their main focus is on emergency medicine, something that other area after-hours clinics are not equipped to handle.
"Our new model should shorten wait time to as little as 15 minutes, which is much less than the three-and-a-half hour national average," said Jay R. Woody, M.D., FACEP. "All patients in our emergency center will be seen by one of the three founding members of the practice, allowing for top-level care by a board certified physician; something only a small number of other centers in North Texas can claim."
Added Steven E. Martz, M.D., FACEP, “Legacy ER will be a full-service center, but we strive to be more patient-focused than a typical hospital emergency room. Not only will wait times be shorter, but the patient experience will also be enhanced.”
